CBDA was pleased to celebrate it's 30th Anniversary with a luncheon on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at the Westin at Town Center. 

CBDA President Chris Stone began the event by reading a letter of congratulations to CBDA from Governor Terry McAuliffe. Governor McAuliffe commended the founders of CBDA, Gerald Divaris, Fred Napolitano, Richard Olivieri, and Burrell Saunders on their "extraordinary accomplishments, leadership and vision". He also noted that the CBDA's "outstanding efforts to support entrepreneurs contributes greatly to the economic vitality of the City of Virginia Beach and benefits communities throughout Hampton Roads".

Special thanks and recognition were given to City of Virginia Beach staff who are instrumental in working with CBDA stakeholders and members on ensuring successful development within the Pembroke Strategic Growth Area (SGA). Those acknowledged were:

  • Doug Smith - Deputy City Manager
  • Warren Harris - Director of Development
  • Barry Frankenfield - Director of Planning
  • Rob Hudome - Project Development Manager
  • Brian Solis - SGA Transportation Planner
  • Debbie Zwyna - SGA Planner

CBDA Executive Director Jeanne Evans-Cox also recognized the members of the City Council who continually work with CBDA on issues of importance to the SGA, as well as the School Board for their support of CBDA's partnership with Princess Anne High School during their annual Internship Day.

Included in the festivities was further celebration of Pembroke Mall's 50th Anniversary with a cake delivered by the Last Night on the Town mime troupe to Pembroke Mall founders Fred Napolitano and Richard Olivieri.
